Welcome to Patrizia Piccaluga lace museum.

CLASSICAL MAGIC. From Venice to Bruges, a journey into the magic world of laces .

How shall we introduce you to this museum?   What's behind this on-line museum?

Love for beauty, the study of design and its stylistic actualisation....continue

....The research of the finest laces begun some years ago. Some of the laces belonged to my family, others come from donations, others were bought and some are borrowed.

Very soon I felt the need to share with others the charm of these items, symbols of extreme elegance and unrestrained luxury.   Thanks to today's technology we can share our treasure with those passionate of arts, history, culture and the evolution of European customs, and you can visit this unique collection of laces and embroideries . The subject of laces is very complex, and not enough has been written to help us in the categorization and classification of the items shown. My research was made possible thanks to some precious publications about laces and thanks to the valuable counselling of Ms. Nives Paciotti.

The classification of some works has been quite problematic due to various affinities among lace works, and in some cases the debate is still open. Should you have suggestions or ideas please to not hesitate to write us, your co-operation is truly appreciated and is essential to feed our passion.

My own work has been strongly motivated by the beauty of embroideries and laces (Venice Point, Burano, Alençon, Bruges, Angleterre, Bruxelles, ...), in turn I have been able to create my own style that you can recognise in the working of the same patterns. My own personal "Made in Italy". Today is the son of yesterday and father of tomorrow.

In the collection I have included digressions and curiosities to take away the formal look and to make it more pleasurable to surf.

Soon I will add other links about Museums, Venetian Villas and interesting news.

Updates will be included in the News .

Our thanks go to:

Botanic Garden of the University of Padova , for allowing us to reproduce the "Planimetry of   the Garden of the Simple of Padova, published by Griolamo Porro in 1591".

Arch. Elio Michelotti , former Director of RAKAM and now founder of the RICAMO ITALIANO (Italian Embroidery), for his appreciation of my work and unforgettable long co-operation.

Ms. Bruna Buria Piovan for her kind and precious donations.

Ms. Lucia Manglafico , for the sample of Sicilian Sfilato. We truly recommend a visit to her "Permanent   Museum of Artistic   Laces and Embroideries" in Solarino (Siracuse), under the aegis of ITALIA NOSTRA.

-  A special thanks to Ms. Giovanna Piccaluga (my telematic aunt), the brain and the soul behind this project, an unflagging and reliable collaborator. Many of the antique pieces in this collection belong to her

and

-  Everybody who have supported our work, with their time, friendship and kindness.

My great-grandfather RICCARDO SCULCO.

I never met my great-grandfather, I had the chance of getting

to know him only trough the stories told me by my grandmother Enrichetta.

The few items that I own, the visit of my ancestors' places, what has been written about them, make me feel a part and a member of a familial saga.

This small collection of yellowed pictures belongs after all to my roots. It's a bridge between yesterday and today.
